Map Kaliper User Guide
Complete step-by-step instructions for measuring land, converting coordinates, and exporting maps.
1. How to Measure Land Area & Perimeter
Step 1: Adding Map Points
- Click or Tap: Left-click anywhere on the satellite map to place boundary pins around your land plot.
- GPS Location: Tap the GPS target button on the bottom right of the map to center on your current position.
- Manual Input / Batch Paste: Click the Paste button in the sidebar to paste list coordinates in Decimal Degrees (DD), DMS, or UTM Zone 48N format.
Step 2: Real-time Area & Distance Calculation
As soon as 3 or more points are added, Map Kaliper automatically forms a polygon and calculates:
- Total Area: Displayed in square meters (m²), hectares (ha), acres, or Khmer land units (អា / ការ៉េសិន). Click any result card to toggle units instantly.
- Perimeter: Total boundary length in meters or kilometers.
2. Coordinate Conversion Systems
Map Kaliper automatically converts land coordinates between the following international & local systems:
- DD (Decimal Degrees): standard GPS lat/long (e.g.
12.8597, 104.0304)
- DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds): e.g.
12° 51' 34.9" N, 104° 01' 49.4" E
- UTM Zone 48N (WGS 84): Universal Transverse Mercator used across Cambodia and Southeast Asia.
- MGRS (Military Grid Reference System): Standard grid reference format.
- Indian 1960 Zone 48N: Historical geodetic coordinate system used in Cambodian land titling.
3. Exporting & Saving Maps
- KML Export: Click the KML button to download your map polygon for Google Earth or GIS software.
- Image Capture: Click Capture to download a high-resolution satellite map snapshot of your measured land.
- Save Locally: Tap the heart/save icon to store your map boundaries in your browser storage for offline use.
4. Quick Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl + Z : Undo last added point
- Delete / Backspace : Remove selected coordinate point
- Space : Zoom and auto-fit map view to land polygon bounds
- Tab : Open or collapse sidebar drawer
- Esc : Close active popups or context menus
